Fly into Bandar Lampung (TKG) — Radin Inten II Airport. That's your closest entry point to South Sumatra by air. From there it's about a 5–6 hour drive to camp, and yes, it's worth every minute of it. We arrange a private air-conditioned pickup directly from arrivals — just let us know your flight details when you book. We don't recommend the public bus. It takes longer, only runs at set times, and doesn't drop you close enough.

Krui works year-round, but if you want the best of it, aim for May through October. That's when the southeast trade winds go offshore every morning and the swells are most consistent and powerful. June, July and August are peak — expect proper size and clean conditions most days. If you prefer smaller, more relaxed waves with fewer people in the water, November to March is actually great for that. Off-season Krui is underrated.

Honestly — intermediate and above will have the most fun here. Most of the breaks around Krui are reef, so if you've never surfed over reef before, this probably isn't your first trip. That said, the area is more varied than people think. Within a short scooter ride you'll find beach breaks and more forgiving spots alongside the heavier stuff. We can point you in the right direction each morning based on the conditions and your level. Shortboarders, longboarders and bodyboarders — everyone's gone home happy.

Bring your own board — the waves here are powerful and you want gear you trust. Pack spare leashes, fins, a fin key, wax, and a ding repair kit. We have a local ding repair guy who does great work at fair prices if something breaks. Also: reef booties (you'll thank us), a rash vest, sun protection, mozzie repellent, a small first aid kit, and a long-sleeve shirt and pants for evenings in the village. Power sockets here are the round 2-pin Indonesian style, so grab an adaptor before you arrive.

Change your money in Jakarta, Bali, or Bandar Lampung before you arrive — there's no money changer in Krui itself. There are ATMs in Krui town (and one at the airport in Bandar Lampung), but availability can be hit and miss. Because your accommodation and meals are all included in the $35/night package, you mainly just need cash for your bar tab and any local transport or excursions. Roughly $300–400 USD per person per week covers personal spending comfortably for most guests.

Yes — non-negotiable. Get travel insurance that covers surfing and medical evacuation. Reef cuts are common and the nearest major hospital is a few hours away. There's a local clinic nearby for minor stuff, but for anything serious you need that medevac cover. Pack a small personal first aid kit too — antibiotics, antihistamines, antiseptic cream, and some band-aids. You might not need it, but someone else in the camp probably will and you'll be a hero.

Way less crowded than Bali — that's one of the main reasons people come here. Even in peak season the vibe is relaxed and the lineups are manageable. This area draws a different kind of surfer — more mellow, more experienced, not the chaotic scene you get further west. Come in the shoulder months (April, May, September, October) and you'll often have breaks to yourselves. With 10+ waves reachable on a scooter, there's always somewhere to spread out.

Most nationalities get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) valid for 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days. Your passport needs at least 6 months validity from your arrival date. You can also apply online before you fly to skip the queue at the airport. Very. The Lampung people are warm and genuinely welcoming — you'll hear "Halo Mister!" more times than you can count and it never gets old. The community here is predominantly Muslim, so outside of camp just dress modestly — cover your shoulders and thighs, wear a shirt. It's a small fishing town, not a tourist strip, which is exactly what makes it special. Show respect and you'll be treated like family. A smile breaks down any language barrier instantly.

Yes, we have free WiFi at the camp. Mobile coverage works in the area — if you have global roaming it'll work, or you can pick up a local SIM card on arrival in Indonesia (they're cheap and you can grab one in Bandar Lampung or Jakarta). Just note that phones need to be registered in Indonesia — you can do this at the customs counter on arrival at the airport. Don't expect Bali-speed internet, but it's perfectly fine for the essentials.
